Timberline Campus is surrounded by some of Colorados tallest mountains. Mt. Elbert and Mt. Massive, the states highest summits, dominate the view from campus. Timberline Campus overlooks Leadville, one of the frontier Wests wildest and richest boom towns. The towns rich Victorian architecture still reflects the glory of those silver days. At an elevation of 10,152 feet, Leadville is considered the highest incorporated city in the nation.
The new Timberline Campus academic building provides classrooms, conference rooms and bookstore. Cafeteria, lounge and other meeting spaces are available at the student center. Next door, the Storm King building houses the library, media center, bookstore and additional classrooms.
Timberline Campus is surrounded by acres of lodgepole pine forest. On-campus recreational opportunities include several kilometers of hiking and biking trails, a fitness trail, soccer field, and an 18-hole disc golf course. For cyclists, the Mineral Belt Trail offers a ten-mile ride which begins and ends on campus.
Throughout the summer Leadville hosts many events such as the Boomdays Mining Celebration, Trail 100 ultramarathon race, Lap the Lake bike race, and Fourth of July on Dutch Henry Hill. The town is rich in Colorado mining history, and home to several museums. Jeep tours and train rides explore mining country. A few miles downstream, whitewater rafting on the Arkansas River is some of Colorados best. Several nearby wilderness areas, national forests and large lakes provide other recreation opportunities. The Mt. Massive golf course is one of the nations highest.
